I will be visiting family in Illinois this weekend and will not be at the market, but wanted to pass along LOTS of info for you!
**Thanks to Jessi for agreeing to keep the Sprouts box at her booth in my absence! If you see kids looking for check-in, please send them in her direction J
Craft & Gift Expo – despite my efforts, we won’t be able to re-locate to another hall this year. The Elks is booked annually on that day, but we might try for the KC Hall next year. For this year, we will remain at the City Auditorium. Info, including vendor paperwork is available at www.washmomarket.com/expo. IMPORTANT: If you plan to attend, you must text/e-mail me your preferred booth location by Sunday, September 15! Prior year vendors (non-market) will get to choose their spaces starting Monday the 16th.
Mark Your Calendars:
September 27-29 – Fall Festival. Hours: Friday – 4-7 p.m., Saturday – 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., Sunday – 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
October 12 – Missouri Meerschaum 150th Birthday Celebration. **I need to know what vendors (reserved AND general) will be here that day. Please let me know by Sept. 30!! We will close at 1, but need a quick cleanup!
October 26 – Pumpkin Palooza / Last Market Day. Extended Hours, No vehicles leave until 3:30 p.m.
**For Pumpkin Palooza – We are adding some new events and bringing back a couple of others. I’d love to see participation from the market vendors in the baking and/or pumpkin/gourd contests!
Baking Contests – Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin Anything-But-Pie, Decorated Halloween Cookie… **These contests are being sponsored by the Farmers’ Market. Prizes will be market cash, which must be spent at the market that day. Vendors who accept the market cash will submit it to me like sprouts tokens to be reimbursed.
Pumpkin/Gourd Contests – Giant Pumpkin Weigh-In, Prettiest Pumpkin (Decorated), Ugliest Pumpkin, Ugliest Gourd
We are also adding a Cake Walk – I would LOVE for vendors to supply items for this. If so, I can list it as being sponsored by the market, and we can make sure to give the vendor that made the item a nice little shout-out before each walk. If you will bring something, please e-mail or text me. If you can let me know exactly what type of item you are bringing, that would be awesome. It could be a cake, another type of dessert, produce basket, or frankly, other merchandise from your booth. Make sure you include a business card! We can certainly re-name it from a “cake walk” if needed
Reminder: Reservation meeting is Tuesday, March 5 at 6 p.m. in the Chamber lower level. Martha will be here to certify scales.
I have attached all of the paperwork for the 2019 season and wanted to give you an update on a few things that came up after our meeting that the Chamber Board approved yesterday.
First – we have business that is sponsoring the Sprouts Club at the top level, and has paid extra (substantially) to have an advertising booth at the market. Before you freak out, because I was hesitant on this one too… They will be set up on the back side of the market building, where we have never had a vendor booth before. They will never be allowed to utilize a vendor space, as they don’t meet the requirements to be a vendor. They will have a very small tent, and an activity (giant connect 4, giant jenga, etc) each week, and are not allowed to solicit leads/sales outside of their area.
I’m also in the process of scheduling a few special events where we would allow outside vendors on the parking lot only. This would be promoted as a separate event/vendor show, but conveniently, it would be held next door to the market. I hope to get one scheduled for early May and another in late August/early September. The goal here is to get more of our revenue from other sources, so your fees can be used for more advertising options and/or live music or other things that add to the atmosphere at the market.
One more event, but I’m not sure if I’ll get it off the ground or not – would be a one-time weekday evening event where sprouts could partner with local chefs (or ECC culinary students) to prepare a kid-friendly dish. People would buy tickets to come to “Sample Night” or something like that. Most of the sampling area would be under the market, but other vendors would be welcome in the parking lot that night if you want to attend. Again, very early planning stages here… no tentative date or other details available, but it’s something I am looking into.
I am out at a swim meet all weekend, but I would be happy to answer questions on this project AFTER the reservation meeting on Tuesday night. And as always, feel free to text or e-mail me, but I can’t guarantee how quickly I can get back to you this weekend.
