Saturdays have been busy at the Washington Farmers’ Market! Visitors can find a great selection of locally grown produce, plus baked goods, jams/jellies/honey, meat, eggs, and handcrafted items. The market is open Saturdays, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at in the open-air pavilion at 317 West Main Street in downtown Washington.
Nearly 40 vendors have registered for permits, with 25-30 present each week. Produce currently available at the market includes Tomatoes, Blueberries, Peaches, Corn on the Cob, Squash, Zucchini, Cucumbers, Peppers, Broccoli, Cucumbers, Radishes, Beets, Kohlrabi, Eggplant, Swiss Chard, and Lettuce. Customers can also find fresh eggs, beef, and pork. A variety of fresh breads are available, plus cookies, pies, and more!
Children age 3-10 can participate in the market’s Sprouts Club, a free program started in 2016. Once registered, children check-in each time they visit the market and are given two - $1 tokens to be spent on fresh fruits and veggies. The program is managed by the Washington Area Chamber of Commerce, and is funded through sponsorship from Bank of Washington, Four Rivers Area Family YMCA, Hillermann Nursery & Florist, Missouri Rhine Valley Association, Schroeder Drugs, Sheldon & Amy, Washington Optimist Club, and Washington Rotary Club.
